Weekend Update
Welcome to Weekend Update for July 8, 2001.

This was a short week because of the Fourth of July holiday.  Instead of a regular update, I thought I would share a copy of a letter to the editor I wrote that was published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Saturday (I’m assuming that many people were out enjoying the beautiful weather and may have missed the letters column that day).

Democratic Economic Recovery Plan

Senator Fingerhut has released a two part plan, in response to the latest budget deliberations, that details the necessary steps to pull Ohio out of its current economic slump.

Part One

Part Two

Hate Crimes Legislation:               Senator Fingerhut introduces Senate Bill 22                                                The goal of S.B. 22 is to achieve a better understanding of the scope and nature of the problem of hate crimes in Ohio, to seek preventive action where possible, and to make available the type of information that would allow the public and the media to put incidents of hate crimes and hate group activity in perspective when they occur.

Senator Fingerhut re-introduced legislation,S.B.72, to make red the official state color of Ohio.  The idea for the bill was suggested to Senator Fingerhut by students at Ridgebury Elementary school in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

The students have been diligent in their support for the bill, they testified last year before the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee and have developed a website for the cause www.red4ohio.com
